I’m so excited. I have three books coming my way from Bethany House. This is the same publishing company where I received the book “Love in Disguise”. The only thing, I must do reviews. Which as I mentioned before, is no problem. My sister, who also does reviews on the books (hanaxela.wordpress.com) and I are finally getting coordinated when it comes to requesting books. The last batch of requests, we requested the same book. And this was out of a choice of five. This time we coordinated our efforts. But, due to a mistake in Bethany House’s initial offering of books, they offered another book Almost Amish and an advanced copy of a book by Dee Anderson. So, I will be well supplied with reading material for awhile.
I won this particular pen on a Facebook contest and just received it in the mail, yesterday. The color they sent me was purple, pretty purple, but I do know they have a nice variety of other pens. My mom received one that was blue. But my impressions of the pen is that I love it. It’s a permanent marker that writes like a regular pen. No big man script, or thin marker. This is totally perfect and already doodled all over the packaging it came in.
The nice thing is that they sent me a $2 coupon for any 8-pack of BIC Mark-It Permanent Markers. I just may be using it. Love the pen!
A few weeks ago I received three boxes of Green Mountain, brew over ice, for participation in a buzz campaign. Each box consisted of four samples, two for two, two for coffee. Along with the coffee, it included a nice tumbler with lid and straw, where I was to prepare my coffee.
Now I have a keurig maker, which my husband and I love. I also enjoy going to Starbucks to get my java chip frappacino. So, I was more than willing to try iced coffee. Well, the instructions were simple, fill the tumbler with ice and then fill it with 6-8 ounces of coffee. Excited, one morning I substituted my regular routine to make the iced coffee. Followed the instructions, but forgot to adjust my coffee setting. In turn, I ended up with a really watery iced coffee. That one, went down the the drain.
The next day, I made a tumbler of sweet tea for my husband. He said it was good, just a bit watery. So again, adjustments are needed.
A few days later, i was willing to go at it again with the iced coffee. Setting the coffee mode on the 8 oz, I eagerly waited to try it. One swallow and I spit it out. So, I doctored how I do my hot coffee. Took another swallow, this one much smaller. I spit it out. I don’t think my doctoring methods are working with the cold version. The next time I make my coffee, I doing it the traditional way. That is, doing it hot, doctoring it with cream, sugar and chocolate, and then I plan on pouring it over ice. A few more steps, but, if I can drink it then I’ll suggest it. But, then why would I bother purchasing a “Brew Over Ice” set? For the tea.
Ok, so I received my book for review, Love in Disguise by Carol Cox. After initially starting the first chapter, it took me a few days before I found time to really get into the book.
The first few pages had me interested, but not so that I couldn’t put it down. However, once I did get further along in the book, it had me hooked. The characters and the plot had me intrigued. At first, I wasn’t sure the purpose of one of the characters (a young boy), but towards the end I understood. However, I did wonder if perhaps he could have been used a little bit more in the story.
But honestly, this is one of those books you should read. I started off with a hot tub of water, and ended with my hands as prunes and my water cold.
As a child I used to race with my sister to the mailbox, to see who would get there first. It was in those days that I had pen pals, or was looking forward to the magazines my mom got in the mail. Those days soon passed and with my mailbox fill with junk mail or bills, it was no longer fun to open the mailbox.
Well, those days are gone. Contests, sweepstakes and instant wins have opened up a whole new world for me. Going to the mailbox is no longer something done with a sigh, but rather eagerly sought. My sighs come when i have nothing in the mailbox, often making me wonder if either 1) we had no mail or 2) the mail person placed my mail and/or a package on the front porch. Imagine my delight with it is the later!
Equally as important is the mail I receive digitally. Today, my prize was $1000 gift code for Amazon, won from the Amazon Truck Sweepstakes. This was one of the largest prizes I have everyone, other than a television that I ended up giving to my parents. Once I made it past legal, the code was emailed to me. That, and a gift card is on it’s way. That is going to be used more as a reminder of what I won. In addition to the email code, I received a $5 LiveNation code to be used toward’s merchandise. Unfortunately, $5 isn’t really enough.
Mail call consisted of a T-shirt from the Hershey game of The Avengers. That one will go straight to hubby. He will appreciate that I think. In addition, I received a book from Bethany House, “Love in Disguise”. In order to receive the book, I had to agree to post a review of it. Believe me, I more than welcome the opportunity to do that. Once I read it, I shall share my thoughts of the book here, anything to be able to review and read more books.
